UM Experiences Highs and Lows this Weekend.

The University of Miami volleyball team completed a season series sweep of Duke University on Friday night, 3-0, in ACC volleyball action (27-25, 25-19, 25-23) held at the James L. Knight Sports Complex in Coral Gables, Fla. With the win, the `Canes continue their home court winning streak at 13 matches dating back to 2007.

A week after suffering the first road trip sweep of the year, Miami (20-4, 8-4 ACC) bounced back and looked as scary as the kids dressed for Halloween on Friday night inside the Knight Sports Complex. While Sebastian the Ibis was giving away treats to the costumed children in attendance, head coach Nicole Lantagne Welch and the Hurricanes had a few tricks up their sleeve, instead. The Hurricanes completed their first-ever season series sweep of Duke, and defeated the Blue Devils for the first time ever in Coral Gables.

After sweeping Duke on Friday, October 31st the Miami Hurricanes were poised to excert themselves in the ACC by defeating Wake Forest. Miami fans showed up to support the team. Amungst a large crowd of students were several members of USAV clubs (VPA) Volleyball Players Acedemy, South Florida and District 2A Champs Palmer Trinity.

Unfortunately the large boisterous crowd was not enough to help the Hurricanes through three closely contested matches. As Wake Forest's Natalie Mullikin's 14 kills and Kristen White's nine-kill performance were the embers that sparked the fire on Sunday afternoon to lead Wake Forest University to a 3-0 triumph (25-19, 25-22, 25-22) over the homestanding University of Miami at the James L. Knight Sports Complex in Coral Gables, Fla.

Wake Forest (16-9, 7-6 ACC) were not fazed by the swarm of pink that was being worn around the Knight Sports Complex on Sunday as the Hurricanes participated in this year's Dig for the Cure program benefitting breast cancer research/awareness. For the Hurricanes, the loss on Sunday was their first in 13 matches dating back to a 3-0win over Boston College on Nov. 11, 2007.

Miami now has an 8-5 record in the ACC which places them in fifth place with only seven games remaining. We feel confident that the lady canes will be able to finish the season strong and at least capture an invitation to the big dance . . . The NCAA Tournament.
