Stand up and make some noise for your ___________. Will you fill in the blank with the FIU team or the UM team. For many of us; we enjoy the play of both team and their talented players. You have probably been craving a cross town match up for quite some time. Now that you have it, who will you root for?
The match will be held at the U.S. Century Bank Arena, September 10th @ 7:00PM. Both FIU and UM come in to the match with Identical 5-1 records as both teams are on the rise nationally with FIU expected to repeat as Sun Belt Conference Champion and UM is expected to seriously contend for the ACC crown.
Thus far FIU has compiled an impresive record without the services of Yarimar Rosa, who has a strain and has had a taxing ofseason representing Puerto Rico in International play. The most impressive win has been against highly touted Kansas in Lawrence.
Yarimar is expected to play during this match. She will be joined by Natalia Valentin, Isadora Rangel and Olga Vergun that missed last season. Look for strong participation from local players: Angelina Colon - Palmer Trinity; Sabrina Gonzalez - Sunset and Stephanie Rodriguez - Florida Christian.
The University of Miami Volleyball team has compiled an impressive start to the season also winning The Hampton Inn and Suites Tournament in Northern Colorado. UM is lead by a young group of top performers that should have the program ridding high for some time. Keep and eye on Lane Carico, Jenny Mayhew, Katie Gallagher, Cassie Loessberg and Lici McGee.
If you are a fan of either or both programs this is a must watch. Seeing that I have a UM shirt I'll probably have to buy an FIU hat, sit back and enjoy what should be a memorable and enjoyable match. I plan on cheering every great play on either side.
